These terms govern your use of the Catalog Cleanup AI Shopify app ("the app", "the service"). By installing or using the app, you ("the merchant", "you") agree to these terms.
Catalog Cleanup AI is a Shopify-embedded application that uses AI to bulk-rewrite product catalog content — descriptions, SEO meta fields, and image alt text. The service presents proposed rewrites in a diff view for your review and approval. Approved changes are applied to your Shopify catalog. Applied changes can be reversed within 90 days of apply.
Catalog Cleanup uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate rewrite proposals. Anthropic does not train its models on data sent through its API; the product fields you select are processed for the sole purpose of generating your requested rewrites and are not retained by Anthropic for model improvement.
Shopify relationship. Catalog Cleanup is an independent third-party app provider. Your use of Catalog Cleanup is not governed by Shopify's terms of service, and Shopify is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Catalog Cleanup's content, availability, or accuracy. For Shopify support, contact Shopify directly. For Catalog Cleanup support, contact support@catalogcleanup.app.
Authorization on install. By installing Catalog Cleanup, you authorize us to access your Shopify Admin API on your behalf to: read product titles, descriptions, SEO fields, and image alt text for the products you select; apply approved rewrites; and receive Shopify webhooks (including app/uninstalled, customers/data_request, customers/redact, and shop/redact). You can revoke this authorization at any time by uninstalling the app from your Shopify Admin.
You must (a) operate a Shopify store, (b) be authorized to bind that store to these terms, and (c) be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction.
Catalog Cleanup uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate rewrite proposals.
Active acknowledgment. By using Catalog Cleanup, you acknowledge and accept that:
Ownership. As between you and us, the rewrite proposals are yours to use, modify, or discard. We do not claim copyright over the output.
Data usage. Catalog Cleanup never trains on your catalog data. We send only the specific product fields you select for rewriting to Anthropic, and Anthropic does not retain or use this data to train its models.
Output similarity to third-party work. Claude was trained on a broad corpus of public internet data, including content protected by copyright. Generated output may unintentionally contain text, phrases, or structures similar to existing published work. This is not infringement by Catalog Cleanup or Anthropic, and we do not operate any filter to detect or prevent such similarity. You are responsible for reviewing each proposed rewrite for similarity to existing published content in your industry or on the open web before approving. For high-value categories, we recommend running outputs through a plagiarism-detection tool (for example Copyscape) before publishing. If you approve and publish content that turns out to be substantially similar to a third party's work, you assume all liability for the resulting infringement claim.
Applied changes can be reversed for 90 days from the moment of apply. After 90 days, the original values may be removed from our records and undo will no longer be possible. If you have made further edits in Shopify after a Catalog Cleanup apply, the undo for that field may be skipped to avoid overwriting your manual changes; we will tell you exactly which fields skipped and why.
Undo availability and limitations. We store original field values for 90 days after apply and make them available for undo on request. Undo is a recovery feature, not a backup service: we maintain original values in our operational database only and do not operate redundant backups, archived snapshots, or off-site replicas for undo data. Undo is not guaranteed and may fail or be skipped due to: (a) manual edits you made in Shopify after the original apply (skipped to avoid overwriting your manual changes), (b) products or images deleted from your store, (c) Shopify API outages or rate limits, (d) failures of upstream providers (Anthropic, Railway, Cloudflare, Shopify), (e) data loss within the 90-day window from causes beyond our reasonable control, (f) requests made after the 90-day window has closed. We strongly recommend maintaining your own backup of any product data you consider critical.
If undo fails for reasons within our control during the 90-day window and you have not made manual edits to the affected fields, your sole remedy is a refund of the subscription fees paid for the calendar month in which the failure occurred, and indirect or consequential damages (lost sales, brand impact, etc.) are excluded under section 11. This sole-remedy provision does not limit liability for claims arising from our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud as described in section 11.
Our data handling is described in detail in the Privacy Policy. In summary: we process shop-level catalog metadata only; we do not process customer personal data; on uninstall, all shop-scoped data is deleted within Shopify's 48-hour redaction window.
We aim to keep the service running and available, but we do not promise specific uptime. Scheduled maintenance, upstream provider outages (Shopify, Anthropic, Railway, Cloudflare), and unforeseen issues may cause interruption. We are not liable for losses arising from downtime or temporary unavailability. This disclaimer does not extend to failures in our own code or infrastructure that corrupt your product data during an apply or undo operation; for those cases, claims are governed by sections 6 and 11.
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the AI-generated content is accurate, complete, brand-appropriate, or fit for publication without review.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity, arising out of or related to your use of the service. This exclusion applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total cumulative liability for any direct damages arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 250.
The exclusions and cap above do not apply to claims arising from our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for consequential damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, but in no case shall our liability exceed the amount of fees you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
(a) Your indemnity to us. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the service provider, its representatives, and its successors against any third-party claim, demand, loss, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
(b) Our indemnity to you. We will defend you against any third-party claim that the Catalog Cleanup application itself — as distinct from the content it generates — infringes a valid third-party patent, copyright, or trademark, and we will pay damages finally awarded against you on such a claim, provided you (i) notify us promptly in writing of the claim, (ii) do not settle the claim without our prior written consent, and (iii) give us sole control of the defense and any settlement negotiations. This is your sole and exclusive remedy for any IP claim related to the application.
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to installed merchants by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Minor clarifications will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Moldova, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. If you are a merchant or consumer located in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection laws, those laws apply to your use of the service to the extent they grant you protections that would otherwise be overridden by Moldovan law.
Any lawsuit or legal proceeding will be brought exclusively in the competent courts of Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, except: (a) if mandatory consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction grants you the right to bring proceedings before your local courts, you may exercise that right; and (b) for claims involving intellectual-property infringement or requests for injunctive relief, either party may seek relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
If any provision of these terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
